Representation Matters
“If I wait for someone else to validate my existence, it will mean that I’m shortchanging myself.” (Zanele Muholi)

Chef Cate joined MG in 2001 and has spent the last 20+ years of her career sharing her passion for nutritious food, mindful eating, and wellness practices. It is through these passions, that she has been instrumental in coaching, training, and developing our MG culinary talent. She has spent time in nearly every MG account, including some oldies and goodies of years past….Fishburne Military School, St. Anne’s Belfield, Covenant Woods, and Meriwether’s Market Restaurant just to name a few!
A native of Roanoke Virginia, Cate’s professional and personal experiences have ranged widely. She’s received both AAA Four and AAA Five Diamond Awards as a Chef, is a Certified Dietary Manager, has a love for all things outdoors and a deep passion for music, having studied Music Education at Shenandoah University in Winchester VA. Her instrument of choice is the violin and from time to time you can find Cate playing alongside her friends and other community members in what she defines as their personal ‘jam sessions’.
As Pride month comes to an end, Chef Cate leaves us with her personal thoughts and message for change… I‘ve never seen myself as a trailblazer or even an activist, but I have always felt that my place in the world no matter was I was doing, how I represented, what my choices were, or how I took up space on the planet was to make an easier path for those that follow. So many times, I have not been the loudest and proudest in the room, yet I have been focused on being my most authentic self. That’s why Pride Month is so important to me. It allows everyone to celebrate their authentic selves & to take time to honor and be grateful for all who have come before us and shared their authentic selves with the world, albeit some at extreme costs but each to make a better path forward for all LGBTQ spirits. “Be the change you wish to see in the world – Mahatma Gandhi”
