“I am who I am. I am Shirley. I know I’m a powerful woman in everything I do.”
Ms. Shirley lost her mother at the age of eight and was raised by her father in a household of four sisters and four brothers in Prince Edward County. Growing up in such a large family, each sibling took turns cooking, sparking her lifelong relationship with preparing food for both herself and others.
For her, joining MG was a life-changing moment. She vividly recalls her first day at Hampden-Sydney College on October 15th, 1979, as if it were yesterday. Despite the intense hailstorm that greeted her arrival, she looks back on that day with fondness, as HSC has since become her second family.
